Primary Function: The work year for School Assistants shall be the same as the number of student days as determined by the district.  On days when there is an early dismissal, School Assistants shall work those hours. The workday is 5.25 hours per day. The School Assistant will focus on serving the instructional needs of the regular education students and the daily duties of each school they are assigned. This position does not offer benefits. 

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist students (individually or in groups) with assigned class work to reinforce learning, concepts and
  • Assist with the supervision and care of students in the classroom, lunchroom, play areas, on field trips and other assigned
  • Keep inventories, records and performs other clerical duties as directed
  • Assist with testing process and procedures and checks tests, quizzes, and workbooks exercises as assigned
  • Preparation and duplication of class and school materials
  • Prepare and maintain bulletin boards
  • Assist teachers and students with computer and audio-visual equipment use and materials
  • Attends in-service and training programs, and school/parent meetings as requested
  • Maintains confidentiality of information
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

 

Other Job Duties

  • Assistants may carry out teacher-planned instruction. (The School Assistant may not introduce new instruction concepts).
  • Assistants may maintain oversight/supervision of the classroom when teacher is not available
  • Assistants may report observational data to professional school personnel
  • Assistants may assist the teacher / supervisor / principal with student discipline

 

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with experience working with school-aged children preferred. Good oral and written communication skills, visual acuity, and the ability to hear and read are required. Must possess the temperament to work with students and adults exhibiting a wide range of emotions and have the physical ability to perform the essential duties
