Reading Olympics Advisor
Title: Reading Olympics Advisor

Job Description: The Reading Olympics is an annual academic competition that encourages students to read more and develop critical thinking and teamwork skills.
|
Effective: 2024 – 2025 School Year
|
Qualifications:
· Experience: Prior experience in teaching students to read and organizing and supervising elementary/middle/high school age students.
· Skills: Organization, written and verbal communication, and supervision and management of students.
· Education: Valid PA teaching certificate.

Essential Functions:
· Coordinating books: Meeting with the team to ensure students are reading all the books before the competition.
· Secure texts that align with competition guidelines.
· Preparing the team: Practicing competition protocol, creating questions, and holding book discussions.
· Organize and conduct regular practice sessions for students participating in the Reading Olympics.
· Create questions based on identified texts to better prepare participants.
· Previewing all resources before using them with students to ensure they are appropriate.
· Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and support as needed.
· Deliver an information session to potential participants.
· Arranging transportation: Scheduling and arranging transportation to and from the event.
· Supervising the team: Accompanying the team to the event and supervising them.
· Ensure students have signed permission slips and provide ongoing communication with families.
· Chaperone your team on the night of the event.
· Communicating with students and staff: Communicating with students, teachers, and the Reading Olympics staff, as required.
· Encouraging parents: Encouraging parents to support at-home reading, attend the event, and serve as escorts.
· Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere that promotes a love of reading.
· Other duties as assigned by Administration.
· Has read and understands obligations as outlined in MNSD School Board Policies.
