Applications are now being accepted for FOOD SERVICE COOK to assist in the production, set up and serving of meals for staff and activities in accordance with established safety and sanitary regulations and procedures. This is a part-time position and does not include benefits.
Primary Function: To prepare attractive, nutritious meals to students, staff, and activities in accordance with established safety and sanitary regulations and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and skills in large quantity food handling, preparation and cooking.
- Ability to read, to write, and to comprehend simple instructions.
- Ability to effectively present information to customers and other employees.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Knowledge and/or ability to learn “Point of Sale” system required.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Ability to resolve routine problems.
- Dependability, punctuality, and initiative are essential.
- Good personal hygiene.
- Familiarity of National School Lunch Program desirable.
- High School diploma with training in culinary arts a plus.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Sets up and prepares equipment in accordance with established production menus
- Sets up and prepares food products in accordance with established menu
- Cooks/prepares menu items as required
- Ensures high standard of service and food quality: serve students/staff appetizing food in adequate portions
- Monitors all hot foods for quality of taste, texture and appearance; tests new recipes
- Review and interpret recipes and measurement conversions
- Stock serving lines as needed
- Properly packages and stores unused and avoids excess food items
- Cleans, sanitizes, and restores work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Maintains and reports daily production records
- Monitors and records freezer and refrigerator temperatures
- Ensures storerooms, refrigerators and freezers are secure and locked at end of shift
- Wears and maintains, clean and sanitary clothing and footware
- Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for cooking and foods
Other Job Duties:
- Assist on the serving line as needed
- May use computers, cash registers and other electronic equipment used in the food service operation for food preparation, serving and storage
- Perform other less-essential duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED and experience working in food preparation.
- Must possess the temperament to work with students, adults, and co-workers exhibiting a wide range of emotions.
- Must have the physical ability to perform the essential duties.
Work Environment:
- Employee works primarily indoors in a climate controlled sanitary environment that can range from extreme heat from ovens, fryers and other heating equipment to extreme cold from freezers and other cooling equipment.
- Handles extremely hot and cold items as well as sharp instruments.
- Operates food and beverage preparation and dispensing equipment and utensils.
- Frequent standing, and walking, with occasional sitting.
- Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs with occasional pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, using stairs, bending, reaching and twisting.
